SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - A Sioux Falls area ski resort has been helping people with disabilities enjoy the winter slopes with its annual Adaptive Ski Day.
Sioux Falls resident Bob Uecker tells KDLT television (https://bit.ly/1flvpH8 ) that it’s a great opportunity to get back in the snow.
Uecker used to ski at Great Bear Recreation Park before he broke his neck in a car accident in 1977. But he wasn’t completely paralyzed, and he’s able to ski again using a set of bi-skis. An instructor helps him on and off of the lift.
Uecker says he loves going down the hill, and when he turns and the snow gets up in his face, he’s skiing.
Park General Manager Dan Griders says each bi-ski is lower to the ground so the crashes aren’t as severe.
