BERTHOLD, N.D. (AP) - Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad is seeking approval from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to build a new track at Berthold to provide a more efficient interchange.

The Minot Daily News reports (https://bit.ly/1jqyRzg ) that the permit application is being considered under the Clean Water Act because it would discharge fill material into wetland.

BNSF proposes to construct a new track for the rail system using local native soil and riprap. The project would place fill less than an acre of jurisdictional wetlands.

The corps’ Omaha district North Dakota regulatory office is taking comments on the project until March 6.
