PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee is heading to Washington D.C. for a gathering of the nation’s governors.

This year’s winter meeting of the National Governors Association will feature discussions about transportation funding, workforce training and early education programs. Speakers at the event include U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz and several other state and federal officials from around the country.

The group is also scheduled to meet with President Barack Obama.

Chafee’s spokeswoman says the governor, a Democrat, will travel to Washington on Saturday and return to Rhode Island on Monday.
