LAS VEGAS (AP) - Charges have been upgraded to murder against a Nellis Air Force Base sergeant whose 3-month-old son died after being hospitalized with severe head injuries.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1dcjfu8 ) that a North Las Vegas judge set a Feb. 27 hearing for 31-year-old Andrew Leach on the new charge.

Leach remains held at the Clark County jail. He was arrested after the boy was hospitalized Feb. 2.

Police say Leach told investigators the boy fell from his arms while he was preparing a bath, and that he shook the child to try to revive him.

He also told police he’d been treated for mental health issues including post-traumatic stress, anxiety, depression and alcohol and drug dependence.

Leach is a staff sergeant and member of the 99th Logistics Readiness Squadron.
