SCRANTON, Pa. (AP) - A northeastern Pennsylvania man accused of having set fire to his home while his father was sleeping has been ordered to stand trial on a homicide charge in the older man’s death.
The (Scranton) Times-Tribune (https://bit.ly/1bRhAQ5 ) reports that a magisterial district judge in Lackawanna County ruled Thursday that there was enough evidence for 47-year-old Kevin Brown to stand trial.
Brown was originally charged with attempted homicide in the Nov. 22 fire in Scranton, which authorities alleged occurred after he and 78-year-old James Brown argued over finances.
Witnesses said the father was pulled from the flames by neighbors as his son sat in the backyard. Police said the younger man told them he was sleeping but awoke when he smelled smoke. James Brown was badly burned and died Dec. 3.
