Suicide attackers in Kabul hit a police compound with bombs and guns early Friday, killing one and wounding four, Afghan security forces said.

The attack sparked an hourlong firefight, The Associated Press reported. It began when a suicide car bomber detonated an explosive at the gates, paving the way for two other male attackers — wearing burqas — to open fire on the police, AP said.

Kabul police reported that three attackers were also killed.

The Taliban has since taken responsibility for the attack, AP reported.
