INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Gov. Mike Pence has met with Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius to discuss his push to use the state’s health savings accounts to expand Medicaid coverage in Indiana.
Pence’s office says the governor met Friday with Sebelius in the nation’s capital, where Pence is taking part in a National Governors Association meeting.
The Affordable Care Act called for states to make Medicaid available to all adults earning up to 138 percent of the federal poverty limit. A U.S. Supreme Court decision made the expansion optional for states.
Pence wants to expand Medicaid through the Healthy Indiana Plan the state started in 2008 as an alternative to the traditional Medicaid expansion model.
Pence said in a statement that he remains committed to “using the Healthy Indiana Plan’s consumer-driven design.”
