MARANA, Ariz. (AP) - A brief look at the third round of the Match Play Championship on Friday at The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club at Dove Mountain:

Match of the day: Graeme McDowell pulled off another improbable escape to advance to the quarterfinals, beating Hunter Mahan in 21 holes. McDowell won 17 and 18 to force overtime and made a 20-foot par putt on the 20th to extend the match.

Quote of the day: “I’ve just robbed three players. I can’t believe I’m still in it.” - Graeme McDowell.

Stat of the day: Graeme McDowell has yet to hit a tee shot over 58 holes in which he was leading.

Shot of the day: Jim Furyk chipped in for birdie on the par-3 16th to take the lead in his 1-up victory over Harris English.

Long concession: Guilty about taking a long time on two drops away from bees on the sixth hole, Sergio Garcia conceded an 18-foot par putt for a halve with Rickie Fowler on No. 7. Fowler rallied to beat Garcia 1 up.

Quarterfinals: Jason Day vs. Louis Oosthuizen, Jim Furyk vs. Rickie Fowler, Jordan Spieth vs. Ernie Els, Graeme McDowell vs. Victor Dubuisson.

Forecast: Saturday, mostly sunny, high around 83 with wind gusting to 12 mph.
