AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - The FBI will investigate a Central Texas sheriff’s deputy use of a stun gun on a high school student that resulted in severe injuries to the 17-year-old.
FBI officials tell the Austin American-Statesman and KVUE-TV (https://bit.ly/Mg73S2 ) the inquiry will look into whether the Bastrop County sheriff’s deputy who used the stun gun and another who was at the scene used excessive force on Noe Nino de Rivera or whether they misused their power.
FBI spokeswoman Michelle Lee said, “The FBI has reviewed the material, and we are opening an official investigation.”
The teen hit his head on the floor after being shocked in November at Cedar Creek High School. He spent almost two months in a medially induced coma.
The sheriff’s office and the county’s district attorney are also investigating.
