CHICAGO (AP) - Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel is praising a federal judge’s ruling that allows gay couple to marry immediately in Cook County.
In a statement, the former White House Chief of Staff says “love does not discriminate.” He adds: “all gays and lesbians in Cook County should have the right to marry.
He said the city that’s home to the state’s most populated county “welcomes all couples to get married here.”
Earlier Friday, Judge Sharon Johnson Coleman said gay marriages in Cook County didn’t need to wait until June 1 to wed. That’s when a state law allowing the practice goes into effect.
