DETROIT (AP) - Mayor Mike Duggan and City Council President Brenda Jones say the plan designed to steer Detroit out of bankruptcy is a “sober reality check.”
Duggan and Jones released a statement Friday after Detroit’s emergency manager filed the plan. They say it gives the city a framework to move forward while delivering vital services to residents.
It calls for Detroit to spend $1.5 billion over 10 years to remove blighted properties, upgrade public-safety equipment and technology and make other improvements.
It also lists how much money should go to various creditors, including retirees whose pensions would be cut.
Jones and Duggan say they “are committed to working together to achieve the goal of putting the city back on a solid financial foundation.”
