TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie heads to Washington Friday for two days of Republican Governors Association and National Governors Association events.
The Republican governor and possible 2016 presidential candidate plans to attend RGA committee and donor meetings Friday and an “America’s Majority” event in the evening.
On Saturday, Christie is scheduled to attend the NGA opening session and governors’ lunch.
Christie will celebrate his daughter’s 18th birthday in New Jersey on Sunday, then start prepping for Tuesday’s state budget address.
Christie has been ensnared in a political payback scandal that has overshadowed his administration.
Five people close to the governor have been fired or have resigned after private emails revealed aides orchestrated traffic jams near a heavily traveled bridge in an apparent act of retribution against a Democratic adversary.
