BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Medaille College says it will close its suburban Buffalo campus at the end of this semester.

Classes will shift to the main Buffalo campus.

In a letter to the community posted on the college’s website Wednesday, President Richard Jurasek says the private college has seen enrollment decline at its Amherst campus in recent years.

The campus houses the School of Adult and Graduate Education and School of Education. Jurasek blames the declining enrollment in part on fewer adult learners and a decrease in employer-sponsored tuition reimbursement programs.

During his state of the college report Tuesday, Jurasek said the college had a deficit of $2.2 million last year. Local media report that employees have been told there may be layoffs in the consolidation.

Medaille also has a small campus in Rochester.
