STREATOR, Ill. (AP) - A north-central Illinois man is hoping a March band concert will raise enough money to restore a blood-stained Civil War flag.

The (LaSalle) News-Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/1jLOCjZ ) restoring the flag will cost about $15,000.

Dave Reed is president of the Streatorland Historical Society. He says the group needs another $2,000 to cover the costs of restoring the flag and returning it to LaSalle County.

The flag is in storage at the Illinois State Military Museum in Springfield.

Reed says the flag was sewn by women who lived in Bruce Township, which is now Streator. And it was carried by George C. Poundstone, a 31-year-old from southern LaSalle County who died in a Civil War battle in 1863.

He’s buried in Grand Ridge Cemetery.
