HELENA, Mont. (AP) - The Office of Public Instruction has announced nine grants totaling nearly $450,000 to school districts impacted by oil and natural gas production.
Dawson High School and Glendive Elementary School each received $75,000 to purchase or build housing for teachers.
Culbertson High School received $60,000 to hire two teachers, Froid Elementary received $30,500 to hire a teacher while Plentywood schools received $56,000 to hire a Title I teacher and an aide.
Powder River County High in Broadus received nearly $19,000 to improve the electrical service for the schools and expand the utility infrastructure for school employee housing.
Wolf Point Elementary received nearly $70,000 to make repairs after an electrical storm damaged the district’s security system while Winnett schools received $16,500 to install a communication and safety system.
The money comes from oil and natural gas production taxes.
