At least 15 were injured when the second floor of a Mississippi church collapsed during a youth service, the pastor said.
One 16-year-old girl was taken to the hospital with a possible head injury Wednesday evening, The Associated Press reported. The others weren’t seriously injured.
Pastor Tommy Davis with the Freedom Baptist Church in Myrick said the floor of the activity center, located upstairs in the facility, actually gave way and collapsed, sending church-goers tumbling.
“In the middle of the student service, the floor — which is a second-story floor — gave way, causing about 70 students to fall,” Mr. Davis told the local newspaper, The Chronicle. “But it’s got to be said that no one was seriously injured. No one was trapped. God’s hand was certainly taking care of the kids who were in that building.”
The youths attending that evening were 7th- to 12th-graders, AP reported. They suffered cuts, scrapes, bruises and possibly broken bones, witnesses told AP.
