NEW YORK (AP) - New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio took time off from watching the Super Bowl with his teenage son at his home in Brooklyn to visit a local firehouse.

De Blasio had opted not to attend Sunday night’s game at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey between the Seattle Seahawks and the Denver Broncos.

The mayor, who has said he’s rooting for the Seahawks, stopped in at Engine 220 in Park Slope during the second quarter and thanked the firefighters on duty for protecting his house.

He also talked about the great weather for the game. One firefighter joked that “God must be a football fan” and the mayor added - “Or God likes New York City.”
