ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (AP) - The president of Elizabeth City State University is recommending the school eliminate up to 65 positions to help stabilize its finances.

The Daily Advance of Elizabeth City reports (https://bit.ly/1bkg6em ) that interim Chancellor Charles Becton sent a letter telling trustees eliminating the jobs would save $3.7 million a year.

Up to 30 layoffs would come from faculty members. Four deans would also lose their jobs.

Becton says he is also looking at other cost-saving such as having private companies run the campus bookstore and provide security for university buildings.

Becton told trustees he will share his entire plan for restructuring the school at a meeting later this month.

Elizabeth City State University let 46 employees go last fall.
