Progress reported in Medford teachers strike

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) - There may be some progress toward ending the teachers strike at Medford.

The Medford School District and Medford Education Association held an unexpected bargaining session Tuesday after checking in with a state mediator.

The Mail Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/1fyI4RN ) both sides swapped proposals for Wednesday’s scheduled negotiations.

Superintendent Phil Long says he hopes to finish work on a contract and feels the union is interested in doing that too.

Medford has Oregon’s eighth-largest district with 13,500 students and 600 union teachers.

In the second week of the teachers strike, schools are operating with substitutes.
