LAKE IN THE HILLS, Ill. (AP) - Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick Kane has surprised a suburban Chicago second-grade class with a video message from the Sochi Olympics.
Kane is in Russia playing on the U.S. Olympic hockey team. On Wednesday his video was played for students at May Chesak Elementary School in Lake in the Hills. He thanked the students for cheering for him and said “hopefully we can bring back a gold.”
The students also received mini-hockey sticks autographed by Kane, an Olympic mascot toy and Olympic jackets. It was sponsored by McDonald’s.
Teacher Christy Gibbs it started with a message on Twitter that said the class was cheering Kane on.
Gibbs says her class has been researching different Olympic games, keeping a medal count and writing about the events.
