DANVILLE, Ill. (AP) - The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has named a new director for its Illiana Health Care System based in Danville.

According to the Commercial News in Danville (https://bit.ly/1c2PImt ), Japhet Rivera will soon take over as head of the Danville VA hospital and other parts of the regional operation.

The Illiana Health Care System provides medical care to more than 33,000 veterans in central Illinois and west-central Indiana.

Paul Bockelman is director of the VA region that includes the Illiana Health Care System. He said Wednesday that Rivera has a wealth of VA and military experience.

Rivera has been acting director of the VA hospital in Wichita, Kan. And of the Caribbean Health Care System in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He also worked in the U.S. Army Medical Department from 1987-2007.
