WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) - A South Florida man has been sentenced to life in prison for killing his wife.
A Palm Beach County judge sentenced 49-year-old Slobodan Dragic on Wednesday after a jury found him guilty of first-degree murder.
Authorities say the Bosnian immigrant fatally shot Jelena Dragic as she was preparing to leave for work in September 2010, two weeks after she served him with divorce papers.
Slobodan Dragic testified that he didn’t remember shooting his wife but acknowledged he must have done it. His attorneys argued that Dragic simply snapped and that there was no premeditation involved in the shooting.
Assistant State Attorney Adrienne Ellis told the Palm Beach Post (https://goo.gl/FSk1PX ) that the couple’s son and two daughters can finally have closure and move on.
