LOS ANGELES (AP) - Los Angeles County health officials are reminding physicians to report new measles cases immediately, citing two incidents last month when residents were exposed following a reporting delay.
The Los Angeles Times says (https://lat.ms/1gVGAo8 ) if Department of Public Health workers can intervene within three days of measles exposure, they can prevent disease onset. Within six days, they can lessen the severity of the illness
One man developed measles in January after returning from a trip to Asia. The second man fell ill after exposure to a “foreign traveler.”
Both have since recovered.
Officials estimate more than 40 people were exposed to the sick men, and two of them were at high risk for complications.
Symptoms can begin one to three weeks after exposure.
