Sports Illustrated wanted to do something special for next month’s swimsuit issue, so it decided to blast Kate Upton to 34,000 feet above the surface of the earth for a Zero-G photo shoot.
Teaming up with Zero-G Corp. down in Florida, the magazine sent Ms. Upton up 17 times in a converted Boeing-727 known as G-Force One, Discovery News reported.
“The ZERO-G experience was really exhilarating for everyone involved,” said M.J. Day, editor of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue, in a statement. “We have been almost everywhere in the past 50 years with SI Swimsuit, but we have never done anything like this. It was certainly the most out-of-the-box shoot. Once again, Kate surprised us all with how she handled modeling in weightlessness.”
At one time, parabolic flights were known as “vomit comets” due to the flight pattern required to mimic weightlessness. The Zero-G Corp. has perfected the craft, making scientific endeavors — and now modeling shoots — much more pleasant for the passengers involved, Discovery News reported.
