The Girl Scouts of the USA has hit back at a couple of pro-life groups that have criticized the youth organization for ties to Planned Parenthood, and sent threatening letters demanding they stop using the logo.
LifeNews has reported on a number of occasions of the link between Planned Parenthood and other abortion groups to the Girl Scouts. Just this week, LifeNews editor Steven Ertelt said he’d received a letter from the youth group, threatening legal action over what Girl Scout executive Brian Crawford deemed as “articles that outline alleged ties to Planned Parenthood,” Breitbart reported.
Mr. Crawford said in the letter that “GSUSA has an obligation to protect the Girl Scout name” and that “Girl Scouts of the USA does not have a partnership or any relationship with Planned Parenthood and does not intend to initiate one,” Breitbart said.
Meanwhile, a St. Louis woman who runs the website, MyGirlScoutCouncil.com, said she’d also received a threatening letter, demanding she stop using the Girl Scout logo.
Her letter read, Breitbart reported: “We demand that your organization immediately cease using the Girl Scouts logo on your flyers. We would appreciate receiving your assurances by return mail, email or fax on or before February 7, 2014, that you will comply with our demand.”
Mr. Ertelt said in response that “the Girl Scouts are clearly threatened by LifeNews’ reporting on their multiple links to Planned Parenthood, their hiring of abortion activists to key positions and their promotion of abortion activists like Wendy Davis. Their letter is a not-so-veiled intimidation tactic designed to get LifeNews to stop our reporting and to get pro-life groups to stop boycotting them.”
The Breitbart report didn’t include a response from the Girl Scouts.
Breitbart announced last month a boycott of Girl Scout cookie purchases in protest of the group’s endorsement of Ms. Davis, who’s running for governor in Texas.
