PHOENIX (AP) - Acting city manager Ed Zuercher has been named Phoenix’s new city manager.

After a six-month national search, Zuercher was selected Wednesday afternoon to replace David Cavazos.

Zuercher is a 20-year city employee and had been acting manager since Cavazos left the job last October. Cavazos had been city manager since 2009.

Zuercher was named one of four finalists for the city manager’s job earlier this week.

The other local finalist was deputy city manager Rick Naimark, who has worked for Phoenix for 26 years.

The two out-of-state finalists were former Cincinnati city manager Milton Dohoney Jr. and Oakland city administrator Deanna Santana.
