CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - Developments at the Wyoming Legislature on Wed., Feb. 19, the eighth day of the 2014 Budget Session:
BUDGET BILL: Both the House and the Senate heard dozens of amendments to the $3.3-billion general government appropriations bill. Top lawmakers say they expect both houses to vote on another round of amendments later this week and send the bill to a conference committee by Friday that will resolve differences in the House and Senate versions.
ROAD KILL: A bill that already has passed the House to authorize the collection of road-killed animals was received in the Senate and placed on the general file for further action later.
TAIWAN: The House for the second time approved a resolution that would ask Congress to resume free trade talks with Taiwan.
SEXUAL ASSAULT: The Senate for the third time approved a bill that would create a procedure for victims of sexual assault to petition the courts for orders to protect them from people they say were involved.
UNEMPLOYMENT: The Senate for the second time approved a bill that would specify that employees who are fired for misconduct at work aren’t entitled to unemployment coverage. The legislation specifies that this would codify the existing state law spelled out in court rulings.
GUNS IN SCHOOLS: The state Senate Education Committee endorsed a bill to allow teachers to carry firearms in Wyoming schools. The bill now heads to the Senate floor.
