DES PLAINES, Ill. (AP) - The Chicago suburb of Des Plaines has reached a settlement with the Illinois Department of Transportation regarding mismanaged grant money.

The Daily Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1gWL8L5) that the city of Des Plaines will pay IDOT $92,000. City Manager Mike Bartholomew said Tuesday that the agreement had been reached.

The police department received the grant money for drunken driving and seat belt enforcement between 2009 and 2012. However during that time the department was accused of over reporting DUI arrests to receive more funding. More than a dozen police officers also were accused of misrepresenting the number of hours they worked to receive grant-funded overtime.

IDOT officials say the settlement is possible because of cooperation from city officials.

Des Plaines can again apply for IDOT enforcement grants on Sept. 30, 2015.
