DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - The Des Moines school board has approved plans to build a district facility for courses in aviation repair and maintenance.

The Des Moines Register says (https://dmreg.co/1huFl2G ) the board approved the $2.5 million project at its meeting Tuesday. The work is expected to be finished by the start of the 2015-16 school year on land near McCombs Middle School.

The program operates inside a hangar at the Des Moines airport, but airport officials had refused to extend the rent agreement beyond June. The airport board changed course on Feb. 11, deciding to let classes to continue in the hangar through August 2015.
