HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) - Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett is airing his first TV ad of 2014 as he runs for re-election.
The 60-second ad began running statewide Wednesday on cable and stresses Corbett’s efforts to save money and be fiscally conservative.
The ad shows the Republican speaking to people in different settings and summing up, “so what we have really done is reduce spending, lived within our budget and not raised taxes, just as I promised I would do.”
The campaign was unable to immediately substantiate Corbett’s claim that he “saved $338 million in the welfare system by working to prevent fraud and abuse.”
Meanwhile, state spending is higher than it was when Corbett took office as pension obligations and health care costs have risen, while he signed a fuel-tax increase in November.
