JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - The state Court of Appeals has upheld Christopher Brown’s conviction in Coahoma County of a felony charge of leaving the scene of an accident which caused injury or death.

Brown was sentenced in 2012 to three years in prison and two years of post-release supervision.

Authorities said Brown was driving to work in the rain about 6:15 a.m. Sept. 9, 2008, when he struck Joe Campbell, who was riding a recumbent bicycle on a Clarksdale street. Campbell later died from a head injury.

The Appeals Court in Tuesday’s decision said the jury heard from witnesses that Campbell’s bicycle had a blinking strobe light and an orange medical flag, which sat atop a five-foot-high plastic pole. The court that contradicted Brown’s argument that the Campbell couldn’t be seen on the road.
