JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - The chairman of the Senate Education Committee says he would like more money in the per-pupil funding formula than Gov. Sean Parnell has proposed.

But Sen. Gary Stevens says the decision on how much to spend isn’t going to be made in his committee.

He says it will be up to Senate Finance to decide what’s available.

Parnell has proposed an increase of about $200 over three years in his omnibus education bill.

Stevens says if it’s the will of his committee, he plans to advance that and other bills dealing with the base-student allocation, including one from Sen. Berta Gardner that calls for a raise of about $400 over the current level and inflation-proofing.

Gardner said she believes how much the Legislature funds schools is an education committee issue.
