Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich used his Twitter account Tuesday to call on Secretary of State John Kerry to resign, citing the former senator’s recent comments on climate change.

In a series of tweets, Mr. Gingrich — a failed 2012 GOP presidential candidate — ridiculed Mr. Kerry for ranking climate change one of the top threats to the world during remarks in Jakarta, Indonesia, on Monday.

“You really only have to look at the extensive science to understand that climate change is one of the one, two, or three biggest challenges facing this planet,” the secretary said. “That’s why I raise the issue in nearly every single country that I visit as Secretary of State.”

Mr. Gingrich appears to have gotten so amped up that he misspelled the secretary’s name four times.

“Every American who cares about national security must demand Kerrey’s resignation. A delusional secretary of state is dangerous to our safety,” one of the tweets said.

The former speaker later apologized for the typos. But he apologized directly Bob Kerrey, a former Nebraska governor and U.S. senator, for spelling the secretary’s name in a way that suggested the two men were related.
