FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - A Legislative Research Commission employee has been fired after appearing in a video for Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes.
Charles Booker told The Courier-Journal (https://cjky.it/1gzYVYn) that he was terminated Monday for violating a policy that prohibits LRC employees from engaging in partisan political activities.
LRC acting Director Marcia Seiler confirmed that Booker no longer is employed by the agency, but declined to discuss the issue further.
Booker, who lives in Louisville, had worked for the agency for a little more than a year as an analyst for the Government Contract Review Committee at a salary of $51,000 annually.
Booker appears briefly in the video, which mostly features his wife, Tanesha Booker.
“When I think about Mitch McConnell concerning my daughter’s future, it makes me nervous,” Tanesha Booker says in the video. “In 31 years, Mitch McConnell has not done anything for my community.”
Charles Booker makes a couple of comments about the west Louisville community in the video.
“At the last minute I was asked to be in it. I expected there to be a response, but I didn’t think it would rise to the level of me losing my job. But that’s OK,” he said. “I’m proud of my wife. I’m proud of the message she sent for West Louisville. And I’ll have to deal with the consequences.”
