CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) - Former NFL assistant coach John Garrett has been named offensive coordinator of the Oregon State Beavers.
Garrett’s duties include the quarterbacks and tight ends, Oregon State announced Tuesday. He replaces Danny Langsdorf, who left the Beavers last month to become quarterbacks coach for the New York Giants.
Garrett, who once played for Beavers coach Mike Riley in the now-defunct World League, was wide receivers coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last season. Before that, he was on the staff of the Dallas Cowboys under coach Jason Garrett, his brother.
“I have tremendous respect for what Coach Riley, his staff and players have accomplished over the years and I look forward to being part of the program’s continued success,” Garrett said.
Garrett has also held positions with the Cincinnati Bengals and the Arizona Cardinals. At the college level, he was an assistant coach at Virginia and a graduate assistant at his alma mater, Princeton.
His father, Jim, was a longtime assistant coach and scout in the NFL.
“John comes from a great football family and brings with him to Oregon State a wealth of knowledge about the game,” Riley said in a statement released by the team. “His responsibilities will include being the offensive coordinator as well as the quarterbacks and tight ends coach with assistance from our graduate assistant coaches. In addition to his NFL experience, he has coached at the college level and knows the recruiting aspects of the game at this level.”
Oregon State will hold its annual Spring Game on May 3 at Reser Stadium.
