ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - A comptroller’s audit says eight state Department of Transportation workers were improperly reimbursed $320,000 for commuting to an office set up for the Tappan Zee Bridge replacement project.

State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli says Tuesday that transportation officials reimbursed workers for commuting to an office in the Westchester County town of Tarrytown from September 2007 through September 2011.

DiNapoli says the officials incorrectly designated Poughkeepsie as the employees’ official station and then let the employees claim car mileage and toll costs for their commute back and forth from Tarrytown each day.

State transportation official said in an official response that they agree with the audit’s recommendations and have addressed issues raised the in the report.
