SOCHI, Russia (AP) - Slovakia forward Tomas Kopecky has been ruled out for the remainder of the Olympics.

Team spokesman Tomas Stulajter says Kopecky will not play again in the Sochi Games because of an upper-body injury.

The two-time Olympian was hit in the head with an elbow in the first period of Saturday’s game against Slovenia and did not return to play. The blow led to Slovene forward Sabahudin Kovacevic being suspended for the following game.

Kopecky has 12 points in 49 games in his third season with the Florida Panthers. He has also played for Detroit and Chicago during parts of nine NHL seasons, scoring 66 goals and making 100 assists.

Finland’s Aleksander Barkov, a teammate of Kopecky in Florida, had a lower-body injury that knocked him out of the Olympics.
