A new report says radical Islamist group ISIS is “so brutal that even al Qaeda keeps its distance,” and it left a trail of violence as they were driven out of the Syrian town of Addana.
In an exclusive report, the town’s residents showed a CNN reporter where ISIS carried out executions and left the bodies for others to see, while bullet holes riddled the walls of a former ISIS prison.
“They used to leave the bodies of people they executed at the checkpoint for days,” a fighter told CNN. “The corpses would rot. No one could avoid looking at them.”
ISIS was initially welcomed by fighters in Addana, but the group started to exert “harsh order” in the town. Now, residents are left in grief and, among mass graves by the prison, come across the clothes of family members who went missing.
