CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) - Two girls ages 6 and 2 have been fatally shot as bullets tore into a South Texas house during a late-night attack.

Corpus Christi police Capt. Michael Alanis (AL’-uh-nees) said Monday that nobody has been arrested. Police are trying to determine a motive and whether the gunfire late Sunday night was a drive-by shooting.

Police identified the victims as 6-year-old Nevaeh Oliva and 2-year-old Lilly Anna Valent.

Investigators had no immediate information on whether the girls are related and why they were at the Corpus Christi home. Alanis earlier said the younger girl’s father was at the house, along with several other relatives, during the shootings.

Police didn’t immediately say whether the children were in the same room or asleep when they were fatally shot.
