PHOENIX (AP) - Gov. Jan Brewer says Arizona’s Department of Veterans’ Services has helped more than 200 homeless vets off the streets.

The governor made her remarks Saturday morning at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Phoenix.

Brewer was at the second day of Arizona StandDown, a three-day outreach event where homeless and at-risk veterans can get access to resources for housing, mental health, employment and other needs.

Brewer praised the department and its director, Ted Vogt.

She says the department is the first state veterans’ agency in the country to establish a homeless veterans’ division.

She also credited the Arizona Coalition to End Homelessness and the Phoenix VA Health Care System for working with the department for the past three years on an “action plan.”
