NEW ORLEANS — Bradley Beal said after a practice session at Verizon Center, “I got this.” On Saturday, at the three-point shootout on All-Star Saturday Night, the Wizards’ second-year shooting guard came close but failed in the final round.
Marco Belinelli (Spurs) scored 24 points in the extra session, making all the two-point shots on his “money ball” rack. He was forced to the extra session when Beal came from behind in the championship round to tie him with 19 points. Beal scored 18 in the extra session, six short.
Beal advanced among a field of four in the East with a score of 21, dethroning defending three-point champ Kyrie Irving (Cavs) who only had 16. Arron Afflalo (Magic) only registered 13 and Joe Johnson (Nets) 11.
Belinelli, the league’s second-most accurate three-point shooter at 44.8% for the Spurs, advanced from the West. He had a score of 19, beating out Damian Lillard (Blazers) with 18 and 16 each from Kevin Love (Timberwolves) and Stephen Curry (Warriors).
