NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) - Justin Sears scored 25 points and Yale pulled away from Penn in the second half for a 69-54 win Friday night.
Yale (12-9, 6-1 Ivy League) opened the half on an 18-4 run after holding a 25-22 halftime lead. Sears led the Bulldogs with eight points during the run, and Penn (6-14, 3-3) couldn’t cut the lead to fewer than six points the rest of the way.
Armani Cotton scored 17 points to go along with 11 rebounds for Yale and Javier Duren added 11 points. Yale shot 34.6 percent from the field but Penn committed 31 personal fouls. The Bulldogs made 30 of 45 attempts from the line, led by Sears (11 of 15) and Cotton (10 of 15).
Tony Hicks led the Quakers with 19 points. Darien Nelson-Henry had 12 and Fran Dougherty 10.
Yale won its fifth straight game and remains in a first-place tie with Harvard.
