LANCASTER, Pa. (AP) - A central Pennsylvania woman will serve up to 28 years behind bars stemming from the severe abuse and death of her 6-week-old son.

The Intelligencer Journal/Lancaster New Era (https://bit.ly/1owdkZb) said 24-year-old Brianna Michael of Columbia was sentenced Friday to 4 years and 9 months to 28 years in prison for ignoring her boyfriend’s abuse of their son Andrew “A.J.” Moyer and trying to pin the blame on someone else.

She pleaded no contest in December to felony aggravated assault, child endangerment and hindering apprehension.

Authorities said A.J. was tortured for at least a week and suffered burns, broken ribs and severe injuries to his genitals. A final beating in October 2012 caused fatal brain injuries.

A.J.’s father, 25-year-old Andrew Moyer Sr., was sentenced to life in prison in October.
