Call it Valentine’s Day romance for the budget-conscious. A McDonald’s fast-food establishment in Tampa, Fla., is offering candlelight dinners for couples who want the romance, without the five-star price tag.
And yes — reservations are needed.
The Tampa Bay Times reported that one of its local McDonald’s was promoting a “McMemories” fest for Valentine’s Day, and the first 10 reservations will be awarded complimentary roses. It’s more than candles and roses, however. McDonald’s staff are being trained in the fine art of waiting tables — including arranging flowers in the booths and providing free refills, The Tampa Bay Times reported.
The general manager of the McDonald’s in Tampa said his service manager, Liliana Rofario, suggested the Valentine’s transformation.
“She came to me and asked me what I thought. She has three kids and she thought it would be a cool thing for them,” the general manager said, in the Tampa Bay Times. “Maybe for them it’s a first Valentine’s Day and they can’t afford to go to a lot of places.”
He added: “There’s a misconception that [the day] has to be romantic. It’s about showing someone you love them.”
But there is a special dessert, too: That McDonald’s is offering either an apple pie or a chocolate-covered doughnut for its final course, The Mirror reported.
