SEATTLE (AP) - The FBI and area law enforcement agencies have announced the arrest of a 44-year-old man they believe is responsible for 30 bank robberies in King and Snohomish counties in the past year.

The robber’s disguises earned him the nicknames “Elephant Man Bandit” and Cyborg Bandit.” Investigators said Wednesday they now believe just one man was responsible - the one they arrested Tuesday in Seattle’s University District.

The FBI says investigators had identified a van they believed was associated with the robber. They spotted that van Tuesday near a Key Bank branch in Seattle. A man inside the van watched for several hours, put on a mask and entered the bank. Key Bank reported a robbery. The FBI says detectives were waiting when the man walked out.

Detectives also served a search warrant at an Everett home and recovered evidence.

The investigation is continuing.
