MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - The National Weather Service says the winter storm forecast to hit Vermont could dump up to 16 inches of snow on parts of the state.

A winter storm warning is in effect from 10 a.m. Thursday through 1 p.m. Friday.

The heaviest snowfall is expected Thursday night and could fall at a rate of 1 to 2 inches an hour.

The Weather Service says the storm will make travel hazardous.
