OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) - Some conservative Republican state senators are removing their names from their caucus website because they’re upset with recent decisions by the predominantly-Republican Majority Coalition Caucus.
The Seattle Times reported Wednesday (https://bit.ly/1iQ46Uh ) that Sen. Janea Holmquist Newbry has already removed her name from the website’s roster page, and that Sens. Pam Roach and Don Benton say they and another lawmaker plan to as well.
The group says that they are still in the caucus. But they are upset over recent decisions, including the decision last month to vote on a bill to allow financial aid for students who were illegally brought to the United States as children, without first holding a caucus vote on the proposal. The group says it wants a change in caucus rules that would require that major bills get a person-by-person vote in caucus before being brought to the floor.
