PHOENIX (AP) - A new sentencing date has been set for a manager for a Phoenix car-wash chain who admitted participating in the rehiring of workers who had been fired because they weren’t authorized to work in the United States.

Miguel Mejia-Estrada and five other managers for Danny’s Family Car Wash will be sentenced on June 2 in federal court.

Some lower-level managers who pleaded guilty have said that at least one higher-up within Danny’s instructed them to rehire workers. A federal audit had found nearly half of the company’s 1,900-person workforce were people who weren’t authorized to work in the United States.

Twelve of 14 Danny’s managers who were charged have pleaded guilty.

The company has pleaded not guilty to immigration document fraud and other charges.
