ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - A proposed nickel and copper mine in northeastern Minnesota has generated a mountain of public comments.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources says the agency has fielded more than 10,000 public comments on the environmental impact statement for PolyMet Mining’s plan to build the state’s first copper-nickel mine near the Iron Range.

The DNR is working to categorize the comments, which it will continue to accept through March 13.

A Minnesota House committee hearing at the Capitol Tuesday was standing room only.
