A New Jersey school with an eye toward childhood self-esteem laid down the law for Valentine’s Day treats and cards in the classroom, sending home an alert to parents: Don’t send in anything unless it’s for everyone, equally.
A letter from one teacher to parents that was posted on Twitter and reported at The Blaze read: “If your child chooses to exchange Valentine cards in school, he or she should have one for each classmate. This will avoid hurt feelings.”
The teacher also advised parents, via the letter, to avoid writing any names on the envelopes to “make it easier for the children to pass out the cards themselves.”
The name or location of the school was not identified. But critics say the card distribution caveats are political correctness run amok.
For instance, Opie – of the “Opie and Anthony” radio show – tweeted that the letter from the teacher and the Valentine school rules are “pathetic.” He also said, The Blaze reported, “Everyone gets a trophy BS.”
